It is always great to look back at the end of a grant funded period and see how the organisations successful in applying for a VVU community grant benefited from the funding.
The final end of year reports show just how much an impact even the smallest amount of funding can have, improving lives and changing attitudes, directions and circumstances for the better.
Back in 2023/24 we funded Sanctus in Chelmsford a £10,950 grant to develop its work with young adults.
At its day centre, located in the centre of Chelmsford, Sanctus supports homeless and vulnerable young people, working with them in relation to drugs, gangs, violence, mental health and assistance with accommodation.
The community grant funding helped Sanctus to work with 38 young adults seeking support over the period April 23 to March 24. The project was pleased to report back that through the funded work they saw notable changes in the individuals they were supporting, in ways such as improved engagement in employment and training and improved physical and mental wellbeing.
Emma Hughes, Chief Executive Officer, Sanctus, said “Thanks to the VVU, we have been able to engage more young adults in undertaking one-to-one support sessions with our experienced hub team and support them with referrals to other services.”
One young person who had a difficult childhood and was struggling to engage with the modern world has now, thanks to Sanctus, started to turn their life around and use her creative talents to become a poet.
